A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr Adeyemi Olaide Oginni, has bagged the coveted African Engineering and Technology Network (AFRETEC) Staff Mobility Grant for her research titled: Artificial Intelligence and the Challenges and Opportunities in Addressing Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Emerging Societies: A Cross Country Study of Kigali and Lagos.
The staff mobility grant will enable Dr Oginni to work alongside Dr Pierre Bakunzibake, the Project Lead, University of Rwanda (UR) AFRETEC Project, for a period of 3 months.
The AFRETEC research grant is a transformative initiative of Carnegie Mellon University, Africa (CMU-Africa). It is a pan-African collaboration of technology-focused universities from across the African continent with the goal of driving inclusive digital growth. AFRETEC aims to achieve this by collaborating on teaching and learning, knowledge creation, and entrepreneurship activities within the area of engineering and technology.
Dr. Oginni is an esteemed alumna and member of faculty of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Nigeria, who specialises in Climate Studies and research on Institutional Architecture. She is notable for mentoring young female students in STEM through her teachings and speaking engagement at Soapbox STEM in 2020 and 2022. The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade T.
