Students of the International School, University of Lagos (ISL), who emerged overall winner at the Lagos region of the Maltina School Games held at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS at the Senate House.
The team of student athletes from different sports were in company of the Chairman of ISL Board, Prof. Ngozi Osarenren and the Chairman of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), Chief Nzeribe Okegbue.
In her remarks, Prof. Osarenren said it became appropriate for the athletes to pay a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, on whose continued support the students were able to achieve success at the games. She acknowledges the quality leadership of the Vice Chancellor while she aligned that it was through his financial and morale supports to the school that it continues to excel.
The Head of the Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) thanked the Vice Chancellor for his support and expressed his satisfaction with the achievement made in the school so far during his reign as PTA Chairman.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated the students for their success and awarded them cash prizes of N10,000 each for their performances. He appreciated the Coaches especially Ernest Ijeoma for his dedication and commitment towards raising stars for the future with well work out plan despite the several challenges. A model, he affirmed his children benefitted from while in school. He charged the students to go all out to become the best they can be.
Prof. Ogundipe informed that the Senate has made it and institutional policy to have students who represents the institution to have their examinations written at reschedule dates upon an official sports engagement. He assured that same will be extended to the secondary school students.
The highlights of the outing was seeing the Best Male u-17 Athlete win a sum of N5000.00, two tablets and a trophy. The athlete’s recent jump of 7.10m at the Lagos state/AFN Open Championship and should be ranked between 12th and 13th Best Male Long Jumper in Nigeria today.
The winner of the “Best female u-15 Athlete” also went to the International School Lagos, ISL. The school won 7 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 1 bronze medal with a trophy. The school has also been listed by the Nigerian School Sports Federation (NSSF) for the 2021 International Schools Sports Federation (ISSF) tournament later this year.
