UNILAG-DLI Inaugurates Newly Elected DLISA Executives

The newly elected executives of the Distance Learning Institute Students’ Association (DLISA), University of Lagos (UNILAG), have been formally inaugurated at a ceremony organised by the University’s Student Affairs Division.

The oath of office was administered by a representative of the University’s Legal Unit, Barrister Risikat Usman, during the inauguration ceremony supervised by the Student Affairs Division.

At the keenly contested election held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Mr. Balogun Aliu Olayinka had emerged as President, while Mr. Imorujabor Emmanuel Owhoaro was elected Vice-President. Other elected officers are:

  • Nwodom Uchechukwu Marvim – General Secretary
  • Kayode Omolara – Assistant General Secretary
  • Ojetola John Dafe – Financial Secretary
  • Isaac Boluwatife Gideon – Social Secretary
  • Balogun Roliat Adeola – Sports Secretary
  • George Jessica Ogochukwu – Public Relations Officer
  • Taiwo Okikiola Anita – Welfare Secretary

Speaking at the ceremony, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Johnson Agunsoye, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, described the inauguration as the beginning of another opportunity for purposeful leadership and selfless service.

He charged the newly inaugurated executives to demonstrate peaceful, responsible, and committed leadership in line with the vision and mission of both the Institute and the University. The DSA further urged the student leaders to embrace dialogue in resolving issues affecting students, while promoting unity, mutual respect, cooperation, academic excellence, discipline, and hard work among their colleagues.

He also cautioned against examination malpractice and othervices, noting that such acts could jeopardise students’ academic pursuits and future aspirations.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of the Distance Learning Institute, Professor Risikat Dauda, commended the Dean of Student Affairs and his team for effectively supervising the electoral process despite the short notice.

She congratulated the newly inaugurated executives and advised them to work collaboratively while upholding tenacity, integrity, accountability, and transparency, particularly in the management of finances.

Professor Dauda further encouraged the student leaders to imbibe sound leadership qualities, develop emotional intelligence, and demonstrate courage in decision-making.
