The newly elected president of the University of Lagos Women Society (ULWS), Dr. Taiwo Folasade Ipaye, on Thursday, January 19, 2023, presided over the first meeting of the Society after her assumption of office.
During the meeting, Dr. Rachel Odunlade, the Society’s 1st Vice President, delivered a brief report on the election and selection process that resulted in Dr. Ipaye being elected President of the Society. Following that, the General Secretary, Mrs. Olubunmi Badejo, and Treasurer, Mrs. Veronica Adegboye, read their respective reports for the year 2022 to the Society’s members.
Members deliberated on the reports and made observations and suggestions on the ways to make things flow smoothly in the society.
Afterwards, Dr. Ipaye delivered her address, which she titled: “Hit the Ground Running”. In her address, she mentioned the areas which her administration would focus on – areas such as a comprehensive review of the ULWS constitution, expansion of the scope and number of the Society’s ventures; campus-wide sensitization of the University on the Society’s activities; putting in place a career structure of members of staff of the School; running programmes with the Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC); running capacity building programmes for teaching and non-teaching staff of the School; among others.
She also reeled out recent developments in the School and stated that, at the meeting, there would be a revalidation of membership in order to create a robust database of active members. She disclosed that more people would be added to existing committees, as some committees would be reactivated while new ones would be set up to move the Society forward. Several members were nominated into the various committees which would work with the Society’s executives.
