On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, led a delegation of the University on a courtesy call on the Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Idowu Owohunwa.
The UNILAG delegation included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Service), Professor Lucian O. Chukwu, and the Chief Security Officer of the University, Mr. Sunday Alao.

They were received by the CP along with senior officers of the Force including DCP Bassey Sam Ewah (Department of Finance & Administration), DCP Waheed Ayilara (State CID, Panti, Yaba), DCP Hassan Shaffa (Department of Operations), SP Yetunde Cardoso ( Head, Legal Services), and SP Benjamin Hundeyin (Police Public Relations Officer).

During the visit, Professor Ogunsola appreciated the longstanding support the University has enjoyed from the police, adding that this has fostered collaborative security efforts on the university campuses and environs. She, however, urged the police to intensify its efforts, in view of the recent incident of the theft and killing of an Engineering student, outside the University. Her words, “ .. this sad incident indicates clearly the need to beef up security in the environs of UNILAG, even as those behind the dastardly act are brought to book”.
The Vice-Chancellor also encouraged the police to draw on the areas of strength of the university to enhance its work. She expressed the university’s readiness to design customized pieces of training to meet specific competence gaps. According to her, the University is committed to supporting the police force by availing our human and infrastructure resources to support forensic investigations.
Professor Ogunsola disclosed that the University is prioritizing innovation and technology design in response to societal needs.
