On Friday, May 23, 2025, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, received the Archbishop of Lagos Metropolitan See, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins at her office on the 11th floor of the Senate House.
Most Rev. Martins, who is currently on a pastoral visit to the Yaba Deanery, visited St. Thomas More Catholic Church, UNILAG and extended his engagement by paying a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor.


The Archbishop was accompanied by the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lucian Chukwu; Dean, Yaba Deanery, Most Rev. Michael Christian Okonkwo; Chaplain, St. Thomas More Catholic Chaplaincy, UNILAG, Rev. Fr. Paul Akin-Otiko; Chaplain, St. Augustine Catholic Chaplaincy, Akoka, Rev. Fr. Vincent Olofinkua; Laity Chairman, St. Thomas More Catholic Chaplaincy, Mr. Paschal Ojeagbonye; Vice-Chairman, Pastoral Council, Dr. Victor Ilechukwu and Secretary of the Archbishop, Rev. Fr. Paul Ariole.
The entourage was warmly received by the Vic-Chancellor along with Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Afolabi Lesi; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor ‘Muyiwa Falaiye.



During the visit, the Archbishop disclosed some achievements of the Catholic Church in Lagos, mentioning the activities of Lakeside Study Centre. Amongst other things, Prof. Ogunsola, OON, FAS and Prof. ‘Muyiwa Falaiye spoke glowingly about the Chaplain, St. Thomas More Catholic Chaplaincy, UNILAG, Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Paul Akin-Otiko and his research contributions at the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS) and the university community.



This visit highlighted the relationship between the University and Catholic Church along the lines of education, research, and community development.
