The Global Schistosomiasis Alliance (GSA) has appointed Professor Wellington Oyibo as an Ambassador.
As Ambassador, Professor Oyibo will facilitate regular and direct exchange with those working on schistosomiasis elimination and control activities in Nigeria and encourage the sharing of experiences with the GSA and the global schistosomiasis community.
Schistosomiasis, also known as snail fever and bilharzia, is a disease caused by parasitic flatworms called schistosomes. The urinary tract or the intestines may be infected. Symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bloody stool, or blood in the urine.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, on behalf of staff and students of the University of Lagos, congratulates Professor Oyibo on his attainment.
