The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, hosted the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, and other members of Management at the Government House, Uyo, on Monday, 13 September, 2021.
Professor Ogundipe led other top officers of the university to discuss matters of collaboration between the State and the University of Lagos in various areas of higher education.
Governor Emmanuel commended the University of Lagos on the expertise it has developed in the area of student entrepreneurship and innovation. He expressed his desire for UNILAG to provide mentorship for the personnel and programmes of the Akwa Ibom Skills Development Centre and the My Entrepreneurship Goals Programme (MEGP), both of which are separate but integrated attempts by the Akwa Ibom State Government to develop the productive capacities of youth in the state.
Professor Ogundipe, FAS, expressed delight at the opportunity given to contribute to higher education in Akwa Ibom State, in particular, and Nigeria in general. He acknowledged the tremendous work of development that Governor Emmanuel is doing in the state, highlighting that such excellence is characteristic of alumni of the University of Lagos, a distinguished one of whom the Governor is. He also solicited the Governor’s support for UNILAG’s hosting of the NUGA Games next year.
Governor Emmanuel graduated from the University of Lagos with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1987.
