The Innovation and Technology Management Office, University of Lagos (ITMO), UNILAG) is inviting undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University to participate in the Renaissance Student Business Challenge.
Organized by Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited to source practical, innovative solutions to real industry challenges, the competition is a unique opportunity for students to apply their knowledge, showcase their creativity, and gain visibility with a major industry player.
Challenge Categories
Participants may submit solutions under any one of the following categories:
- Reducing Gas Flaring
- Increasing Oil & Gas Production Efficiency
- Pipeline Protection and Integrity Management
- Leveraging AI for Operational Decision-Making
- Strengthening Physical Asset Security (People & Physical Asset)
- Automation of Routine Workflows
- Enhancing Workforce Productivity
- Execution of Engineering Design in Projects
- Wildcat: any other innovative solution, technology, process improvement, or business model that can create value for the industry
Who Can Participate
- Open to currently enrolled UNILAG students; valid student ID/proof of enrolment may be required.
- Individuals or teams (teams must designate one team leader as the primary contact)

- Petroleum and Gas, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic, Metallurgical & Materials, Systems and Civil & Environmental Engineering
- Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Information Technology

- Geosciences
- Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Management
- Cybersecurity
- Any other discipline with an innovative, practical solution to offer
Key Guidelines
- All entries must be original work; any non-original elements must be disclosed with sources cited Entries must not infringe on third-party intellectual property
- Participants must comply with all competition deadlines, judging criteria, and code of conduct provisions
- Participants must be available to present and attend scheduled competition events (virtual or physical)
- Innovations must comply with applicable laws, ethical standards, and safety requirements
- By participating, students consent to the use of their names, photos, presentations, and project summaries for competition-related publicity, subject to applicable privacy laws
