The quadrangle of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Main Library came alive with energy, creativity, and excitement on Friday, February 14, 2025, as the venue of the highly anticipated annual UNILAG Library Lovers Day.

The event, now in its fourth edition, attracted an impressive turnout of students, staff, and faculty, all united by a shared passion for books, knowledge, and their admiration for the library. It was a beautiful blend of fun, unity, and inspiration where learning met style, and love filled the air.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor Bolanle Oboh set the stage for a day filled with creativity and community. She was joined by other members of the University’s Management team including the University Librarian Professor Yetunde Zaid. Together, they enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of the day just as their presence highlighted the significance of the event.

In her remarks, Professor Oboh expressed delight at the impressive turnout, praising the enthusiastic students for their active participation and infectious energy. According to her, “this event is more than just a celebration. It is an opportunity for us to come together, strengthen bonds, and enjoy the love of learning in all its forms.”

Professor Oboh also used the occasion to point out ongoing efforts by the University to enhance its library services and facilities including the recently commissioned Library Commons, a state-of-the-art space. She described it as a place where students of the institution can engage in collaborative learning and thrive academically.

As the day drew to a close, the event took an exciting pace with an array of activities that showcased the creative talent of UNILAG students. One of the highpoints of the event was the spoken word competition where students across various departments took to the stage and captivated the audience by expressing their love for the library through poetry and storytelling.

The day’s festivities culminated in an exhilarating dance competition. Students brought their best moves to the stage with some pulling off impressive routines that had the audience cheering in awe.

The UNILAG Library Lovers Day has become a beloved tradition at UNILAG, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who took part.
