The Faculty of Environmental Sciences Building of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) is currently undergoing remedial works (facelift) courtesy of 300 level students across the Departments of Building, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying and Technology Education.
The remedial works is an operationalization of the practical component of Building Maintenance which is a major course taken by 300 level students across the 4 (four) departments involved.
The project covers repairs, maintenance and painting of the façade, classrooms and corridors of the edifice.
The students under the supervision of the course lecturers: Professor Olumide Afolarin Adenuga and Dr. Olajide Julius Faremi, are demonstrating their acquired knowledge and skills in paints production and execution of building remedial works.
The project which could be likened to charity beginning from home, also provides the students with necessary entrepreneurial and practical exposure in line with the University Management’s 21st Century UNILAG Agenda and vision of grooming fit-for-purpose graduates.
According to the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Professor Modupe Omirin, the Building Maintenance Course, among other objectives, exposes the students to theoretical concepts as well as hands on experience in building maintenance technology and management.
The financial and material supplies for the project is at no cost to the students as it is handled by the Heads of Departments of Building, Estate Management and Quantity Surveying.
The Faculty of Environmental Sciences Building is situated close to the Akoka main gate of UNILAG.
