UNILAG Celebrates Alumni, Dr. Alausa and Dr. Oduwole, as they step in as Ministers

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) proudly celebrates the recent ministerial appointments of two distinguished alumni to the Federal Executive Council by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These appointments further cement our institution’s legacy of producing leaders who continue to shape Nigeria’s future across various sectors.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, a distinguished alumnus from our College of Medicine (Class of 1993), has been appointed as the Minister of Education, following his previous role as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare. Dr. Alausa’s remarkable journey from UNILAG to becoming a renowned Nephrologist and Hypertension specialist, and his tenure as an Assistant Professor at Rush University Medical School in the United States of America exemplify the international recognition that our graduates consistently achieve.

Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, MFR, has been appointed as the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment. A Law graduate of the 1998 Class, Dr. Oduwole exemplifies academic excellence and public service dedication. Her journey from our hallowed halls to Cambridge University and Stanford Law School, where she earned her doctorate in International Trade and Development, showcases the global impact of UNILAG education.

Her impressive career trajectory includes serving as Special Adviser to former President Muhammadu Buhari on Ease of Doing Business and Special Assistant to former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC). Her instrumental role in forming the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN) and contributions to the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) implementation demonstrate the caliber of leadership UNILAG alumni bring to national development.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on behalf of the University community, extends heartfelt congratulations to both Dr. Alausa and Dr. Oduwole on their appointments. Their achievements reflect the enduring excellence of UNILAG education and our institution’s commitment to producing leaders who drive positive change in our nation.

We are confident that both ministers will bring their wealth of experience, expertise, and the distinguished UNILAG tradition of excellence to bear in their new roles serving our great nation.
