Professor Ogunsola appreciated the direction of the alumni body and lauded the Adopt an Akokite initiative, noting that indigent students within the university would benefit greatly from it. According to her, even though the university does its best in catering to the needs of this category of students, a lot more support is needed to better provide for them.

Speaking on Alumni’s intention of offering further assistance to the university, the Vice-Chancellor, attested that it would greatly help in the university’s plan to renovate hostels, as lifting the cost of painting off the institution’s shoulders would give room for more in-depth renovations to be done with available funds.

Earlier, the Alumni Association Chairman, Hon. Owoeye, had announced the body’s plans to deliver additional eight (8) 3-in-1 printers to the University. He explained that the Association had stepped up moves to garner support for the university after their last meeting with the Vice-Chancellor in February 2023. According to him, the alumni body is set to, among other directions:

  • secure the support of a sponsor in painting some hostel buildings;
  • get members of alumni on board to Adopt an Akokite. This programme, tagged Triple A will provide two hundred and fifty thousand naira (₦250,000) sponsorship per indigent student.
  • attract sponsorship for a 12-week digital skill acquisition webinar for students of the university. This is anticipated to provide a range of digital skills training run concurrently.

The Association also pledged to share other needs of the university with its members for possible donations and endowments. In view of this, Hon. Owoeye, Chairman of the Association, requested a suitable date to host both members of alumni and the university management team to dinner.
