The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, FAS on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, received a delegation of the United States Navy band at the Senate Chamber, Senate House, UNILAG.
The delegation was led to the University by the U.S. Mission Public Diplomacy Officer, Ms. Hayley King, who ascribed the visit as a confirmation of the University’s Bourgeoning stature as a home for creative minds.


According to King, the 13-member band visit was part of the arrangement by the United States Consulate office to strengthen the existing bilateral and cultural relationship with Nigerian institutions of higher learning.


A visibly excited Professor Ogunsola commended the US Mission for bringing the U S-Band to the University of Lagos. She emphasized the importance of the visit as one that will create new experiences for the band and the students of the university.

She asserted that Lagos over the years has become a powerhouse for fashion, Art, and Culture. In her words, “We are excited to have you here. Lagos being a place of multi-cultural diversity is home to all and the University has also become a melting pot for different aspects of creative endevaours in recent past. As such, the choice of the University as a destination for the musical performance was not misplaced”.
Thereafter, members of the band introduced themselves whilst expressing their pleasure in getting to meet and interact with Nigerians first-hand.


After their engagement with some members of Management, they headed to the Department of Creative Arts where they had the rare opportunity of serenading the University community with their music.


Before heading to the Department of Creative Arts, a few members of the party made a quick stop at the pioneer university radio station in Nigeria “UNILAG Fm” where they talked about their love for music, why they joined the U.S. Navy, their impressions of Nigerians as well as other activities lined up before their departure from Nigeria.
