Activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the University continued on Sunday, October 2, 2022, with a special interdenominational service at the Chapel of Christ Our Light.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Distinguished Senator Lanrewaju Tejuosho; Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS; the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu, Professor Bola Oboh; Registrar, Oladejo Azeez, Esq, and other members of management were among dignitaries in attendance.
The presiding Pastor, Rev (Dr.) Azuka Ogbolumani remarked that the celebration is a significant one as it coincides with Nigeria’s independence celebration. He said a prayer for the peace and progress of the nation and the University of Lagos. Taking his reference from the Bible chapter, Genesis 8 verse 5 “The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible”, the presiding pastor expressed optimism that the University will continue to surmount all challenges.
Rev. (Dr.) Ogbolumani who gave the sermon tagged: “If my People” cautioned the congregation to be steadfast in prayers for quality leadership in the affairs of the University. It was also an opportunity for him to acknowledge the immense contribution of the current Pro-Chancellor for his thoughtful ideas and leadership qualities which has seen the institution rating a notch higher.
The congregation also specially prayed for the University as it begins preparations for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor.
On Monday, October 3, 2022, to specifically mark the day teaching commenced at the University, an event tagged “Touchdown at the Root” will be held at the College of Medicine, Idi-Araba while an Exhibition will be held at the Main Campus, Akoka.
