In a bid to make Lagos State one of the world’s knowledge hubs through the application of Science and Technology, the Lagos State Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC) have charged Research awardees on the need to support government on Research and Innovation.
During the institutional visit to the University of Lagos the team led by Prof Peter Bamkole remarked that the Council, is charged with managing the Science and Research Innovation; promote scientific research and innovation activities in public and private institutions; commercialize research and innovation products, and promote science education and identify re-engineering opportunities amongst other duties.
He identified the University as an important component in its drive to achieve these objectives. He therefore charged research grant awardees to take advantage of the nexus of possibilities in the state.
While lauding the prowess of the University’s academic for having the highest number of grants awarded by the Council, he encouraged them to participate more in projects that would harness the full potentials of scientific research and innovation in developing solutions to the challenges facing Lagos State.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS and Chairman of the Council explained that the Research Council is open to improving the stake of Lagos. He succinctly put his position that creating wealth, growth and tackling societal challenges in Lagos State solely depends on the workings of the Academia.
He asserted that Researchers must align with the toga of Research – Innovation – Entrepreneurship which will lead to Wealth Creation.
The team from LASRIC commended the various presentations made by all the awardees from UNILAG on their respective projects.
There are thirteen (13) LASRIC grant awardees from the University of Lagos.
