The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe FAS says UNILAG’s latest ranking as 2nd in Nigeria and in the 501 – 600 bracket on the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) World University ranking, is a collective victory and a new challenge for all principal officers of the University.
He made this known while flagging off a 2-day Capacity Building Workshop for Heads of Department in the University.
While congratulating all the HODs who converged at the Tayo Aderinokun Auditorium of the university for their inputs which culminates into the overall progress being recorded by the university, Prof. Ogundipe said from 2018 till date, the university has attracted not less than N15 billion (fifteen billion naira) in research grants with the most recent being 4.8 million dollars won by researchers in the Department of Computer Science.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the University of Lagos has continued to set the pace for other ivory towers especially in terms of leadership and administrative prowess, a feat he attributed to the quality of intellects and manpower the university boasts of.
He noted that UNILAG is leveraging on technology for all its meetings and documentations adding that by the end of December 2021, all memos and records would be fully digitalized.
Prof. Ogundipe charged the HODs to see themselves as representatives of the Vice-Chancellor in their respective departments hence, they should look inward, innovate, make their offices more visible and accessible by connecting more with their colleagues and students with a view to advancing the course of innovative growth and development in the University.
He particularly challenged the HODs to innovate and adopt student-friendly policies which would aid academic performance and improve relations with alumni of their departments.
