On Monday, December 1, 2025, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Medical Centre commenced the commemoration of its 13th Annual Health Week with a campus-wide rally to mark World AIDS Day.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Development Services), Prof. Foluso Afolabi Lesi, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, at the kick-off of the rally, commended UNILAG Medical Centre for successfully hosting the health week, annually. While acknowledging the progress made in combating HIV/AIDs, Professor Lesi urged the University community to exercise caution and prioritise regular medical check-ups, highlighting the availability of affordable treatment at the UNILAG Medical Centre.

In her remarks, Chairman of UNILAG Medical Centre Management Board, Prof (Mrs) Abiola Oduwole expressed gratitude to members of the University community for participating in the awareness exercise aimed at eradicating HIV/AIDs.

The sensitisation campaign emphasised the ABCD (Abstinence, Being careful, Condom usage, and Drug Avoidance) approach to combatting HIV/AIDS as well as the risks of unprotected sex, importance of being a faithful partner, and avoidance of the use of unsterilized or unscreened sharp objects. The campaign also advocated love and support rather than stigma for people living with HIV.

The 13th Annual Health Week of UNILAG Medical Centre continued with a Public Lecture on Abuse among Adolescents and the Youth: Stemming the Tide on Tuesday, December 2, 2025; and a Medical Screening/Wellness Seminar at Tolu Odugbemi Hall, UNILAG on Wednesday, December 3, 2025
