It was a winning commemoration of the World Environment Day, on Monday, June 5, 2023, for Weeks 8 and 9 winners of the ongoing University of Lagos Environmental Sustainability Challenge.
Ms. Adelakun Sumayyah, a very prominent student participant, emerged the Week 8 winner in the Student Category. Cumulatively, she has collected a total of 16,853 plastic bottles since the commencement of the challenge. That puts her in the enviable position of the overall leading student participant.

Mrs Opebajo Nofisat, a participant in the staff category, emerged winner of Week 9. With her total collection of 14,900 bottles so far, she ranks comfortably as the overall leading staff participant.

The Sustainability Challenge Project Lead, Dr. Abdulganiyu Adelopo, was full of praise for the winners. He highlighted the passion and persistence with which they have participated since Week 1.
He announced to the delight of everyone present that from the start of the challenge on March 16, 2023 till date, over 200,000 bottles have been collected on campus and processed for recycling.


The University of Lagos Environmental Sustainability Challenge is a campus drive to track, collect, and recycle one million, five hundred thousand (1.5) million plastic bottles, in a bid to increase community participation in sustainable waste management practices in UNILAG. The Challenge continues till the end of the Semester.
