VC Ogundipe Commissions Electronic Medical Records System at Medical Centre

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, commissioned the use of an Electronic Medical Records System at the Medical Centre on Monday, October 17, 2022.

Dr. (Mrs) Olayinka Coker

In her remarks at the Commissioning Ceremony, the Medical Director, Dr. (Mrs) Olayinka Coker, commended the Vice-Chancellor for being the inspiration behind the project and for the support he gave to ensure its completion.

“The electronic health record system that we are launching today is a testament to the Vice-Chancellor’s determination to advance the University of Lagos in every way. This project was inspired by a complaint that reached Management about the record system of the Medical Centre not being digitised; and immediately the Vice-Chancellor gave us the mandate to address it. Today, we are here to witness the success of that resolve”, she said.

Dr. (Mrs) Florence Oladeji

The Ag. Director of the Centre for Information Technology and Systems (CITS), Dr. (Mrs) Florence Oladeji, was also on hand to speak about the design, development, and deployment of the application.  She took the audience through all the usage points of the application at the Medical Centre and used a patient to demonstrate its operations.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated both the Medical Centre and the CITS for their successful delivery of the application, and encouraged members of the University community to take advantage of the increased capacity of the health facility for more efficient service.

In his words: “I am glad about this development. It is proof that when we all work together, we can achieve great things. I also want you to remember that everyone has the capacity to contribute to the progress of the University of Lagos. It is not only for the Vice-Chancellor or the Management. I thank you all for coming, and may God bless you”.

Jointly developed by the Medical Centre and the Centre for Information Technology and Systems (CITS), the e-records system is a web-based application that will enable patients of the Medical Centre to have access to quick and efficient health care service. The collection and safe keeping of medical records, and the easy sharing of these records among medical personnel are some of the advantages of the new system.
