The University of Lagos is pleased to announce that the Research Ethics Committee (UNILAGREC) has granted ethical clearance for a pilot study to evaluate Florence AI, an AI-powered academic support tool developed by students. The approved twelve-month study will deploy Florence in a controlled pilot among students in the Faculties of Science and Engineering to gather evidence on the educational impact of AI-assisted study support.
Florence AI is designed to provide curriculum-aligned academic help through widely used, low-bandwidth channels. The pilot will measure usage patterns, student engagement, retention, and the practical effectiveness of AI assistance for coursework and exam preparation. The study will be conducted under the university’s oversight to ensure compliance with ethical standards and student data protections.
Participation will be voluntary and recruitment information will be published in January 2026. The university and Florence AI will publish findings and recommendations at the conclusion of the research period.
