Our efforts to position the University of Lagos as one of the global best has began to yield positively. You will recall the university was ranked 1st in nigeria and 12th in Africa by the uniRank earlier this year. Efforts are ongoing to ensure all ranking bodies place the University of Lagos 1st in Nigeria and one of the top four in Africa. Hitherto, University of Lagos has never appeared on the list of Times Higher Education (THE) – one of the foremost University Ranking bodies. However, on September 11, 2019, for the first time in 15 years, THE in its World Universities Ranking 2020, listed the University of Lagos within the 801 – 1000 group.
This latest ranking represents a great leap for the institution. We appreciate the efforts of our staff and students, whose hard work, scholarship, ingenuity and commitments have continued to earn us a place in global reckoning.
Nevertheless, this is still a far cry from where we hope to be. My vision is to make UNILAG number one in Nigeria and one of the top four in Africa by 2022. We urge you to continue to give your best to make University of Lagos a truly 21st Century world class institution.
Our sincere appreciation to the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu; the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed and TETFund Executive Secretary, Prof Ellias Bogoro for their kind support in ensuring the University is able to pursue its mandate.
As Management of the University, we shall continue to come up with ideas that will move us forward rapidly.
Thank you.
Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe
