As part of efforts to increase interactions between students and all categories of staff of the University of Lagos, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe ,FAS, had a breakfast session with newly admitted students for the 2021/2022 academic session.
The ceremony which held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the Jelili Omotola Multipurpose hall of the university formed part of activities lined up for the 2021/2022 Orientation ceremonies of the University of Lagos.
Flanked by other principal officers of the University, Professor Ogundipe used the opportunity to caution the students against all acts of exuberances which could distract them in their academic pursuit which is their primary aim in the university.
While assuring the new students of the university management’s readiness to play its part in ensuring their fruitful stay on campus, the Vice-Chancellor also warned them against vices which could hinder or sabotage management’s efforts.
He particularly implored the new students to acquaint themselves with information especially as it relates to their studentship on campus and their interactions with fellow students as well as all categories of staff of the university.
Prof. Ogundipe also reaffirmed the university management’s strong stance against all forms of harassment or bullying irrespective of who is involved or what is at stake.
He assured the new students of access to all members of management through appropriate channels just as he harped on the need for proper social interactions, intellectually productive engagements and healthy rivalry among the students, this according to the Vice-Chancellor, will guide them in making informed choices as they explore the university phase of their individual lives.
Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe also took time to entertain questions from the new students.
Unlike the latest definition of ‘serving or being served breakfast’ which oftentimes, is associated with heartbreaks and disappointments, “Breakfast with the Vice-Chancellor’’ remains a tradition in the University of Lagos where the Vice-Chancellor, accompanied by other management members hosts newly admitted students of the University for breakfast with the aim of fostering a closer interaction with them.
