UNILAG VC Approves the Constitution of Three Committees in the University

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, has approved the constitution of three (3) committees in the University. They are:

  1. Technical Management Committee
  2. Project Evaluation Committee
  3. Procurement Planning Committee

The Technical Management Committee, which is to handle issues relating to contract award; advise on the necessity of proposed projects and schedule preventive maintenance of projects, and make appropriate recommendations to Management, comprises of the following members:

  1. Professor M. O. Sadiq of the Department of Civil Engineering (Chairman)
  2. Dr. Michael A. K. Adelabu, Department of Elect/Elect (Member)
  3. Dr. Iniobong B. John, Department of Quantity Surveying (Member)
  4. Engineer J. A. Akinwande, Coordinator, Works and Physical Planning Unit (Member)
  5. Architect Olajide A. Oladokun, Works and Physical Planning Unit (Member)
  6. Mr. O. O. Alaba, AO II, System Engineering (Secretary).

The Project Evaluation Committee, which is to evaluate works/projects carried out by contractors; ensure that projects are satisfactorily completed before the Vice-Chancellor grants approval of payment, and make appropriate recommendations to Management, comprises of the following members:

  1. Professor Mike Adebamowo of the Department of Architecture (Chairman)
  2. Dr. Mrs. A. O. Gbenga Illori, Department of Elect/Elect (Member)
  3. Dr. James Akanmu, Acting Head, Procurement Unit (Member)
  4. Dr. Akinloye O. Oyelade of the Department of Civil & Environ. Engineering(Member)
  5. Dr. O. R. Okpala of the Department of Accounting (Member)
  6. Mr. Isaiah O. Kumuyi, AO I, Communication Unit (Secretary).

The Procurement Planning Committee is comprised of the following members:

  1. Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, Vice-Chancellor (Chairman)
  2. Mr. Lekan Lawal, Bursar, (Member)
  3. Professor L. O. Chukwu, Director, Academic Planning Unit (Member)
  4. Engr. Johnson Akinwande, Coordinator, Works & Physical Planning Unit (Member)
  5. Mrs. A. A. Durojaiye, PAR, Legal Services Unit (Member)
  6. Representative of the Unit directly involved in Procurement (Member)
  7. Technical Personnel with experience in the subject matter (Member)
  8. Dr. James Akanmu, Acting Head, Procurement (Secretary).
Members of the Procurement Planning Committee

The Committee shall be responsible for:

  1. preparing the needs assessment and evaluation of the Procuring Entity;
  2. identifying the grade, works and services required;
  3. carrying out appropriate market and statistical survey in conjunction with the Departmental Planning, Research and Statistics (where available);
  4. preparing an analysis of the cost implication of the proposed procurement
  5. aggregating its requirements whenever possible, both within the procuring entity and between procuring entities to obtain economy of scale and reduce procurement cost
  6. integrating the Ministry’s/Parastatal’s procurement expenditure in the yearly budget
  7. prescribing appropriate method for effecting the procurement and securing necessary approval for its implementation
  8. giving periodic report of its activities to the Tenders’ Board
