Two thousand, two hundred and fifty-one (2,251) postgraduate students will graduate at the special 60th Anniversary Convocation Ceremonies of the University of Lagos on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

This was revealed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, at the Pre-Convocation Press-Conference, held at the Senate Chambers on Tuesday, January 10, 2022.

At the event, which is a traditional curtain-raiser for Convocation Ceremonies, the Vice-Chancellor reeled out highlights of the four-day event.

“The ceremonies will begin at 10:00am on Friday, January 13, 2023, with the Commissioning of a Tele-Medicine Project (facilitated by our Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Distinguished Senator Dr. Lanre Tejuoso) at the College of Medicine, Idi Araba. On the same day, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, the Jumaat Service for the ceremonies will take place at the University of Lagos Mosque”.

“At 10:00am on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the Investiture of the 13th Vice-Chancellor will take place at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium. At 12:00am, in the same venue, the Convocation Lecture will be delivered by Mr. Chinenye Mba-Uzoukwu, the Managing Partner of Grand Central Africa”, she said.

One of the history-making features of the upcoming ceremonies is the expected graduation of two octogenarians, 83-year-old Mr. Dayo Michael Duyile and 82-year-old Mrs Bridger Obiageli Okonji. The oldest graduating student, Mr. Duyile, will be conferred with a PhD in Mass Communication, while Mrs. Obiageli will bag the Master’s degree in Guidance and Counselling.

“A total of 2,251graduating students will receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates; out of this number, 67 will receive Postgraduate Diplomas, 2,119will receive Masters degrees, while 65will receive Doctorate degrees”.

There will also be the conferment of Gold Medal Awards on two eminent personalities within the University community:  Professor Johnson Olaleru, a celebrated Professor of Mathematics, and Professor Duro Oni, a Theatre Guru.

The 53rd Convocation Ceremonies will formally come to an end on Sunday, January 22, 2023 with a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Christ Our Light, University of Lagos by 10:00am.

The Vice-Chancellor also took the opportunity to share the focus of her administration with the media and solicited their continued support for the University of Lagos.
