Outstanding participants in the ongoing University of Lagos Sustainability Challenge 2.0 recently got their due recognition and reward.
At the University of Lagos Green Hub, dignitaries and prize winners gathered for the second award ceremony of the Second Semester. The award was for collections made between December 2023 and January 2024.
Fincky Cleaning Services, represented by Agboola Zainab, got the prize for the highest number of collections made by a company with 15,310 bottles.
Mrs. S. A. Folami of the Central Research Laboratory got the prize for the highest individual collection with 2,329 bottles.
Miss Sumayyah Adelakun, with 1,856 bottles, got the prize for the highest collection made by a student; while the third best prize went to Mr Ayodele Adeyelu with 1,273 bottles.
Significant contributions from the Academic staff came from Dr. Olapade of Physics Department and Dr. Fatsuma Olaleru of Zoology Department.
In his introductory remarks, the Project Lead of the Sustainability Challenge, Dr. AbdulGaniy Adelopo, revealed that a total 507,137 bottles have been collected during the semester, which has prevented the emission of 76.07 tons of CO2 into the environment.
The Coordinator of Works and Physical Planning Unit, Mr. Olaniyi Ayeye and Dr. Azeez Oladele of Bursary Unit, ISL were on hand to present prizes to the winners.
The presentation of awards serves as a means of encouragement for participants of the Sustainability Challenge 2.0. It aims to ensure that participants are aware of the impacts they are making and are therefore encouraged to spread the word.
Members of the university community are hereby encouraged to get on the Sustainability Challenge train, in the full assurance that there is a reward for contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.
