UNILAG Students Sweep Bode Osunkoya Prize, Win all Three Positions at 2026 PSRG-Richardson HSSE Forum

Students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have won the three top positions at the second edition of the Bode Osunkoya Competition, reinforcing the University’s reputation for academic excellence and industry-relevant research.

The competition was part of the line-up of activities for the 2026 PSRG-Richardson Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Forum held from Tuesday, September 15 to Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Lagos. Themed “Local Content Development: A National Strategy for Sustainable Growth and Industrialisation,” the competition received undergraduate entries evaluating practical solutions to Nigeria’s industrial challenges.

Following assessment of submissions from participating tertiary institutions, three UNILAG engineering undergraduates emerged winners, clinching all the top positions:

  • 1st Place: Muneedh Zafaran (Department of Systems Engineering): $1,000 and a Certificate of Excellence
  • 2nd Place: Boluwatife Victoria Kolade (Department of Chemical Engineering): $750 and a Certificate of Excellence
  • 3rd Place: Temitope Jinadu (Department of Electrical Engineering): $500 and a Certificate of Excellence

Organised by Richardson Oil and Gas Limited in partnership with PSRG, the Bode Osunkoya Prize honours the memory of the late Mr. Bode Osunkoya. It provides a platform for undergraduates to propose practical, innovative solutions to contemporary industrial challenges.

The three students received their awards from Mr. Akin Osuntoki, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Richardson Oil and Gas Limited, in the presence of Dr. Dorothy Bassey, Chairperson of the Technical Board,e Bode Osunkoya Prize.

The winning entries were commended for their analytical, data-driven approach to advancing local content, promoting local manufacturing and strengthening safety practices across Nigeria’s core industrial sectors.

By sustaining this tradition of excellence at the 2026 forum, Great Akokites have once again demonstrated exceptional talent in delivering industry-relevant research and solutions.
