UNILAG Students of Urban Logistics and Transport Policy Visit Shell on Field Trip

Masters students of the Urban Logistics and Transport Policy programme as well as lecturers, and facilitators from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Lagos, recently took a field trip to the Lagos Headquarters of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo).

Led by the Programme Coordinator. Dr. Olayinka Agunloye, the field trip offered students first-hand exposure to real-world transport and logistics challenges and innovative solutions employed in the Oil and Gas industry. The immersive learning experience proved invaluable to the students’ academic pursuits.

SNEPCo’s Managing Director, Mrs. Elohor Aiboni (FNSE),emphasised the company’s commitment to fostering collaboration between the academia and industry. She expressed SNEPCo’s openness to future joint endeavours that would benefit both parties. She was represented by SNEPCo’s Asset and Business Opportunity Manager for Deep Water and Non-Operated Ventures, Ms. Ibiyemi Asaolu,

SNEPCo is the Nigerian deep-water subsidiary of global energy giant, Shell. SNEPCo pioneered deep-water Oil and Gas exploration in Nigeria when production began in 2005 at Bonga, Nigeria’s first oil and gas offshore development in more than 1,000 metres of water, and one of the world’s largest floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels.

The Bonga operations by SNEPCo have resulted in remittance of taxes and royalties to the Nigerian Government, payment of fees to statutory bodies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission and development of indigenous contactors and service providers. Some 97% of SNEPCo workforce are Nigerians, Overall, Bonga has helped to create a new generation of Nigerian deep-water professionals.
