Teams from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) pulled a stunning performance by showcasing groundbreaking ideas with the potential to transform lives at the just concluded 2025 Cavista Hackathon.
The Director of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) IT Hub (NITHUB), UNILAG, Dr. Victor Odumuyiwa, represented the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS at the event which had the theme: Smart Automation: Enhancing Care through Integrated Systems.
While encouraging the students to keep solving real-world problems through innovation, creativity, and collaboration, Dr. Odumuyiwa emphasized the importance of their contributions to driving positive change in society.
Out of the thirty two (32) teams that jostled for medals at the competition, UNILAG paraded a total of sixteen (16) teams of students who stood out as powerhouse of innovation by demonstrating technical expertise, and deep commitment to solving real-world problems.


At the end of the hackathon, the scorecard showed that five (5) teams from UNILAG made it to the final rounds of the competition while two (2) teams, Team Trend Setters and Team TechStars finished as first and second runners-up, respectively.
Team TrendSetters & Team Techstars and Their Groundbreaking Solutions
Team Trend Setters clinched the first runner-up position (2nd Place) with its pioneering healthcare accessibility innovation, Vital Aid. The team members are Ladipo Samuel (Computer Science: 200 level), Lydia Solomon (Insurance: 200 level), Sumayah Adegbite (Mathematics: 200 level) and Emmanuel Adesipe (Mechanical Engineering: 200 level).
By seamlessly integrating artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and accessibility, Vital Aid aims to re-define emergency healthcare in Nigeria, and bridge critical gaps in timely medical intervention. Its key features and impact include:
- AI Chatbot for First Aid which provides immediate guidance in emergency situations.
- Smart Hospital Finder to direct patients to the nearest healthcare facility based on their medical needs.
- Automated Police Report Generator which helps to eliminate treatment delays caused by legal documentation requirements.
- USSD Integration to ensure accessibility for everyone, even those without internet access


Team TechStars finished as the second runner-up (3rd Place) with its Nurturely innovation targeted at expectant and nursing mothers. The team members are Augustine Favour Uwana (Computer Science: 200 level), Gbeleyi Okikiola Adedayo (Computer Science: 200 level), Osinaku Ugonna Sylvia (Computer Science: 200 level) and Hussain Oluwatobiloba Ayobami (Computer Science: 200 level).
Nurturely is an all-encompassing platform that leverages technology to provide personalized maternal care for expectant and nursing mothers. Its key features and impact include:
- Pregnancy Tracker to monitor progress and provides real-time health insights.
- Daily Health Tips and Facts to ensure mothers stay informed with verified medical advice.
- AI-Powered Assistance which helps to address concerns and offer personalized recommendations.
- Smart Marketplace to curate essential baby products with AI-driven suggestions.
- Doctors’ Appointment Booking: Connects users with registered healthcare professionals.
- Support Community i.e. fosters a safe space for mothers to share experiences and seek guidance.
- Secure Savings and Investment Feature: Helps mothers financially prepare for their child’s arrival.




The 2025 Cavista Hackathon, the 3rd edition of the event, is aimed at tapping into the knowledge of young Nigerians and empowering them to utilize technology in solving real life problems, through technological innovative ideas. The hackathon supports students’ experiential learning, focusing on fostering innovation and unlocking collaborative opportunities.
