Management of the University of Lagos, through the Staff Training and Development Unit (ST&DU), on Monday, November, 11, 2024, commenced a Training and Immersion Programme for staff members of the university who recently converted from the Executive, Media and Security cadres to the Administrative cadre.
Held with the theme: New Role, New You: Acquiring Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Attitude for New Job Roles, the 2-day training programme, according to the Director of ST&DU, Mrs Aderonke Asiwaju, MNIM, is in furtherance of the University management’s commitment to capacity building and manpower development for career fulfilment and excellent service delivery.


Speaking at the opening session of the 2-day Immersion programme which was held at the ST & DU, Mrs Asiwaju explained that the training is part of efforts aimed at equipping the new administrative staff with the knowledge, skills and attitude required in their new roles.
Her words, “this training programme is a platform for the staff members to hone their skills and deepen their understanding of University administration, bureaucracy, culture, processes and standards”.


In her remarks, Acting Registrar of the University, Mrs. Olakunle Makinde, MNIM, congratulated the newly converted staff members on their conversion from their previous cadres. She implored them to see their new positions as administrators as a fresh calling which requires new knowledge, strength of character, prudence and managerial skills in the discharge of their respective duties.
Mrs. Makinde who was represented by Mr. Michael Uwakwe, (a Director in the University Registry) implored the new administrators to familiarize themselves with the objectives, vision and mission of the University and be abreast of their roles in achieving all set goals.


She charged the new administrators to re-commit and re-dedicate themselves towards providing excellent services to the University and all stakeholders at their respective duty posts.
Day One of the Training and Immersion Programme featured the following lectures:
- Elevating Service Delivery through Customer Orientation by Professor Grace Otinwa, (former Director, Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, UNILAG)
- Roles and Responsibilities of Administrators by Mrs. Olakunle Makinde (Acting Registrar, UNILAG)
- Professional Writing Skills for Administrators by Mrs. Abosede Wickliffe, Deputy Registrar & Acting Director, Academic Affairs, UNILAG) and
- Planning and Managing Meetings by Mr Seyi Sanya (Principal Assistant Registrar, Senate and Ceremonies).
