UNILAG STANDS STILL FOR MUSICALITY

A member of staff of the Department of Human Kinetics, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos; Boluwatife Salami outplayed 25 other contestants in the staff category to win the star prizes of the UNILAG Radio 103.1 FM music competition; Musicality.

She smiled home with a cash prize of N200,000 courtesy of organizers of the music competition and a 300 square metre of land at Emuren Town in Ikorodu from Grandiose Homes and Investment Limited.

The event which held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Main Auditorium of UNILAG saw Mr. Sunday Afi of the Faculty of Arts, going home with N150,000 cash prize having emerged as the first runner up while another staff of the Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation (KAFF) Medical Laboratory and Maternity Centre, Mr. Emmanuel Ibeka made the list as the second runner up with a cash prize of N100,000.

In the students’ category, the solo performances of 15-year-old Rasak Shoyemi won Archdeacon Adelaja Senior Secondary School the star prize of N150,000, Diary Farm Senior Secondary School made away with the second position and a prize of N100,000 while C.M.S. Girls’ Senior Grammar School went home with N50,000 as the second runner up in the music competition.

Other schools that made away with consolation prizes courtesy of the Chairman of the event, Honourable Moshood Olanrewaju Oshun, (member, Lagos State House of Assembly representing Lagos Mainland II) were Cifman College, Western College and Community Secondary School, Bariga.

The emergence of the winners was the highpoint of music competition which also recorded the presence and live performances of A-list hip-hop artistes which included Harrysong, Iyanya, Ajaeze and ace fuji musician; Obesere.

In his remarks on behalf of the staff and management of the University of Lagos, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, Professor Lucian Obinna Chukwu lauded the management of UNILAG radio for consistently blazing the trail in infotainment and promoting the hop-side and pop culture of a typical academic environment like the University of Lagos.

Prof. Chukwu particularly commended the Acting Station Manager of UNILAG Radio, Mr. Michael Oladimeji-Lamu for his interest in the discovery and promotion of talents as well as healthy competition among staff and students which brought about the music competition.

The Grand Finale of UNILAG RADIO’s Musicality which held amidst pump and ceremony saw all contestants taking to the stage one after the other to dazzle the crowd of dignitaries and guests which included the wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs. Oluwaseun Ogundipe, staff, students and brand representatives of the event with their performances, it also featured the official launching of the UNILAG Radio 103.1 FM website and mobile application as part of efforts to further project the station globally.
