The Second (2nd) Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation (BOF) Invitational Football Tournament hosted by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Staff School on Thursday, November 9, 2023, was a thrilling event that showcased the talent and sportsmanship of pupils of the participating schools.

The competition brought together four schools: the host, UNILAG Staff School; UNILAG Women Society School, Federal College of Education (Technical) Staff School, and Yaba College of Technology Staff School. These schools fielded their best teams to compete for the championship title. However, the final match between the UNILAG Staff School and Federal College Technical (FCET) Primary School, ended in a 2-0 victory for the host school.

The atmosphere at the grand finale was electric, with students, teachers, and parents cheering their respective teams. The players displayed exceptional skills and determination throughout the match, making it an exhilarating experience for everyone present.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa stated that the Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation (BOF) has been impressively consistent in talent promotion.

Professor Atsenuwa described the tournament as a testament to the importance of sports in fostering healthy competition and promoting physical fitness among students. She added that it also highlighted the significance of extracurricular activities in enhancing overall educational experiences.

Her words “UNILAG Staff School’s triumph in this football competition will undoubtedly serve as a source of pride for both the school and its students. It is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and passion for sports’’.

Similarly, Founder of Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation and current Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Lagos State Chapter, Dr Benjamin Olowojebutu expressed delight at the preparation and dedication of the schools that participated in the competition.

The inter-primary school competition afforded Dr Olowojebutu an opportunity to express appreciation to the University of Lagos Management and leadership of the staff school led by Acting Headmistress, Mrs Eunice Adedoyin Akinade for the coordination and innovative support.

The tournament also featured a Female Penalty Shoot-out Competition, with Asiegbu Victory clinching the first position. Mary Oloja emerged second and Miss Oladehinde Adepeju, third.

At the end of the exciting event, a trophy was presented to the winner, UNILAG Staff School in the presence of dignitaries including Founder of Fearless Cup, Render Udan; former UNILAG Alumni Association Vice Chairman, Dr. Olusegun John Adeleke, immediate past Chairman of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Lagos State Branch, Dr. Tajudeen Mobolaji Salawu, and representative of UNILAG Bursar, Mr. Robert Ezimoha among many others.
