The Senate of the University of Lagos has elected the current Director of Academic Planning (DAP), Professor Mathew Soji Ilori, as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research).
Professor Ilori emerged victorious at the statutory meeting of Senate held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, securing a decisive 192 votes (91%) against Professor Michael Babatunde Adegbile of the Faculty of Architecture, who polled 19 votes (9%).
His appointment, subject to ratification by the University Governing Council, is for a tenure of two (2) years and takes effect from Friday, March 27, 2026.
Professor Ilori is a distinguished alumnus of UNILAG, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Second Class Upper Division, June 1984), Master of Philosophy in Microbiology (November 1990), and Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology (November 1998).
He has served the University in several key capacities, including Chairman, Board of the Institute of Maritime Studies (IMS); Deputy Chairman, Academic Programmes Committee of the School of Postgraduate Studies; and Dean, Faculty of Science, among others.
