Three dons of the University of Lagos were celebrated by the University Senate at its meeting held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, ahead of their retirement from active government service in June, 2025.
They are: Professor Obanishola Sadiq (Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering); Professor Francis Chukwudike Anyim (Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management); and Professor Joseph Nnamdi Mojekwu (Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance) who was unavoidably absent.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Bola Oboh, in her capacity as the Acting Chairperson of UNILAG Senate May Meeting, read the citations of Professors Sadiq and Anyim.
In their separate responses, Professors Sadiq, and Anyim (who was online) expressed gratitude to God, families and friends as well as the University Senate and community for the opportunity to serve and contribute their quota to the development of Nigeria.
Professor Obanishola Sadiq was born on June 3, 1955. He holds a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering (1985) and Ph.D. in Structural Engineering (1990), from the Institute of Civil Engineering, Kiev, Ukraine (formerly USSR).
He began his academic career as Lecturer 1 in the Department of Civil Engineering, Ahmadu-Bello University, Zaria, in 1991. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1994. In 1995, he transferred his services to the Civil Engineering Department at University of Lagos, rose through the ranks to become Associate Professor in 2000 and Professor on October 1, 2001.
His major area of research is Nonlinear Structural Stability and Vibration Analysis of Shells and Spatial Structures. He has supervised ten (10) Ph. D candidates, and over one hundred (100) M.Sc./M.Phil candidates. He has over seventy (70) publications in reputable national and international journals as well as referred conference proceedings.
Professor Sadiq was Dean, Faculty of Engineering (2021-2024); Sub-Dean, Faculty of Engineering (1999-2001); and Head, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (2011-2014). Beyond academics, he was appointed Acting Deputy Director of Works & Services of UNILAG in 2001 and Acting Director of Works & Services in August 2002.
A Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (FNAE), Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), and Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers (FNIStruct.E); Professor Sadiq is a COREN registered Civil Engineer and member of the International Association for Shell & Spatial Structures (M.IASS).
Professor Sadiq is married to Mrs. Aladi Gloria Sadiq and they are blessed with children.
Professor Francis Chukwudike Anyim was born on June 18, 1955. His kitty of academic qualifications includes a Certificate in Industrial Relations and Trade Unionism; First Degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan; as well as a Masters Degree and Ph.D. in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management from the University of Lagos.
He joined the service of the University of Lagos as Lecturer II on October 31, 2010 and grew through the ranks to Professor on October 1, 2021.
The former acting Head of Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management (ERHRM) has produced ten doctoral candidates. He has several local and foreign scholarly publications in reputable and professional journals in the area of Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Organizational Behaviour, Employment Relations and General Management.
Professor Anyim is a Fellow of several professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (FCIPM); Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) (FNIM); Corporate Administration Institute (FCAI), African Business School, Abuja (FABS) and Strategic Human Capital Management (FSHCM).
He is happily married with children.
Professor Joseph Nnamdi Mojekwu was born on June 23, 1955. He holds B.Sc. in Statistics, Obafemi Awolowo University (formerly known as University of Ife); M.Sc. in Statistics, University of Lagos; M.A. in Demography, University of Ghana, Legon; MBA, University of Lagos, and Ph.D. in Social Statistics from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
Professor Mojekwu joined the service of the University of Lagos as Lecturer II on November 1, 1995 and rose through the ranks to the position of Professor in 2012. He was Head of Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance from 2006 to 2009 and 2016 to 2019.
He has supervised and assessed more than 300 undergraduate research projects, 250 Master’s Dissertations and 25 Doctoral Theses across five universities in Africa.
Professor Mojekwu is a Chartered Statistician (CStat) of the Royal Statistical Society, United Kingdom; Fellow of the Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria and member of reputable professional bodies such as the Nigerian Statistical Association. He is currently the Chairman of Sustainable Education and Development Research for Africa, a group of African Researchers with its headquarters in Accra, Ghana.
He is actively involved in numerous developmental projects in his local community as a way of giving back to his community.
Professor Mojekwu is married and blessed with children.
