The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, FAS has received the situation report of the ongoing construction of the NNPC/SNEPCO UNILAG Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Geophysics Project.
The report was presented to the Vice Chancellor on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, by a delegation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) accompanied by the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Duro Oni who is the Project Supervisory Head.
Prof. Oni explained that his role of monitoring the progress of the project commenced after the signing of the project partnership agreement under former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rahman Bello, and he continued with the role during Professor Toyin Ogundipe’s tenure.
According to him, “this visit is an opportunity to meet with every member of the project supervision team and highlight the need to appoint a new Supervisory Head following my retirement from the services of the university in December, 2022”.

In her remarks, the Project Manager, Engr Lawretta Ehebha reiterated SNEPCo’s readiness to deliver the project within reasonable time, and in accordance to specification with optimization of designs and resources to match global standards.
In response, Professor Ogunsola adjudged the visit as a testimony of the university management’s resilience and unrelenting efforts in ensuring that the blueprint for partnerships and all-round development of the institution are unhindered.
While appreciating the SNEPCo team for coming through with its promise on the Centre of Excellence (CoE) Project in Geophysics, Professor Ogunsola also commended Professor Duro Oni and other members of the UNILAG Supervisory team for their commitment, consistency and efforts through the pursuit for the actualization of the project.
Thereafter, the University management team led by Professor Ogunsola and the NNPC/SNEPCO delegation visited the project site at the Faculty of Science for an assessment of the ongoing construction project.
The construction is being handled by 225MM Construct Limited, and it is expected to be delivered within 24 months, specifically December 2024.
