A delegation of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has arrived at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the accreditation of the Institution’s degree programme in Insurance.

The 4-man delegation led by Mr. Sunny Adeda paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on Monday, April 29, 2024.

The team was accompanied by the Director, Academic Planning, Prof. Olusoji Ilori; a representative of the Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Dr. S. Ogega; a Professor of Insurance and current Dean of Student Affairs, Musa Obalola; Head, Department of Insurance, Prof. Hamadu Dauda; Dr. Folake Olowokudejo, Prof. Adekunle Aduloju, Professor Tajudeen Yusuf, Prof. I.A Adeleke and Dr. O. S Faduu.

They were received by the Vice Chancellor’s representative and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lucian Obinna Chukwu along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & Research), Prof. Bola Oboh; Acting Registrar, Mrs. Olakunle E. Makinde; Bursar, Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Adekunle, Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Wale Antonio Oke and Director, Quality Assurance & Servicom, Prof. Olufemi Saibu.

In his remarks, Mr. Adeda appreciated the UNILAG Management for the warm reception accorded the accreditation team.

According to him, “the CIIN team is in the university to assess the B.Sc. Insurance program, which is offered by the Faculty of Management Science. We are expected to evaluate the program’s compliance with the Institute’s standards and requirements”.

He stated that the accreditation team would work in line with the CIIN guidelines and proffer recommendations where necessary.

During the visit, the team also discussed the importance of accreditation in maintaining high standards in Insurance education as well as the need for continuous collaboration between the University and CIIN.

In response, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lucian Obinna Chukwu welcomed and assured the delegation of the readiness of the Department of Insurance to cooperate and present all requirements in accordance to the CIIN guidelines.

He reiterated the University’s commitment to the production of graduates who are well-equipped to excel in the insurance.

The Chartered Institute of Insurance of Nigeria is the professional body for insurance professionals in Nigeria, and its accreditation is a mark of excellence for insurance programs in Nigerian universities.
