Software Company, Cecure Intelligence Limited has given a boost to efforts aimed at advancing research and teaching in the University of Lagos, with the donation of a set of equipment and renovation of the Department of Physics ‘Phy 308’ laboratory, built over two decades ago.
Similarly, the 1980/1983 alumni set of the department has also enhanced facilities within the laboratory with the donation of advanced laboratory tools, cutting-edge research equipment and computing systems aimed at enhancing the research capabilities and academic experience of students and faculty members.


The official handing-over of the renovated lab and equipment was held on Thursday, February 15, 2024. The event was witnessed by representatives of Cecure Intelligence Limited and 1980/83 alumni set; as well as a cross-section of students and staff of Department of Physics and Faculty of Science including Professor Olayinka Asekun; Dr. Andrew Oke-Ovie Akala, among others.







Receiving the donation on behalf of the department, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Bola Oboh who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS thanked the donors and described their donations as “timely significant investment in the future of Physics education and research at the university, demonstrating a shared commitment to excellence and technological advancement.
Highlighting the importance of partnerships between academia and industry in driving innovation and knowledge exchange, Prof Oboh urged the current student population to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits and emulate the spirit of generosity displayed by Cecure Intelligence as well as the 1980/83 alumni set.



On his part, the representative of Cecure Intelligence Limited, Mr. Juwon Adeyeye thanked the University for the opportunity to assist in fostering innovation. He added that the gesture was in line with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, to support the department in ensuring excellence in Physics education.

“We are thrilled to be able to support the Department of Physics in their pursuit of knowledge and innovation. We believe that our donation will not only benefit the students and faculty but also contribute to the advancement of scientific research in the field of Physics.”
Also speaking during the event, a member of the 1980/1983 alumni set, Mr. Tokunbo Tifase explained that “equipping the laboratory was part of the initiatives lined up by the set to assist the department and positively impact society”.

He noted that the donation of the state-of-the-art equipment of fifteen (15) analogue and digital trainer board, one (1) high-performance trainer board, and fifteen (15) PC Scopes could not have been achieved without the support of Dr. Sola Oyebola, a member of the 1980/83 alumni set and lecturer in the department.


His words, “we are a class that benefitted immensely from the teaching and learning experience gained here over 40 years ago. Today, I and all my colleagues live comfortably. Let me state that special mention be given to a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Idowu Obasa who single-handedly ensured the purchase of the fifteen (15) PC Scopes”.


Earlier in their separate remarks, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Elijah Oyeyemi, and Head of the Department of Physics, Professor Olusola expressed their gratitude for the donation.





The Head of Physics Department also called for further assistance to upgrade infrastructure and equipment of laboratories and classrooms within the department. He urged stakeholders, alumni, and other potential donors to support the department in its mission to provide a world-class learning environment for students and researchers.
