UNILAG Management, Muslim Community Hold Iftar, Preaches Solidarity

As part of efforts to encourage sharing and solidarity during Ramadan, the Management of the University of Lagos and members of the University Muslim Community held a jointIftar program on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, on the 1st Floor of Senate House, Main Campus, Akoka.

The event was a potpourri of prayers, quranic recitation, and admonitions.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Profesor Folasade Ogunsola FAS appreciated the Muslim community for their unrelenting support over the years particularly since her assumption of office. She noted that the Ifar event provided another opportunity for the University to gather and stay in touch with the Muslim community.

According to her, Ramadan as a holy month brings the Muslim ummah closer to God and reminds everyone of the suffering of those who are less fortunate.

She called on the leadership of UNILAG Ummah to continue to support the institution not just as a community, but as stakeholders in the overall success of the institution.

In his remarks, the Chief Imam, Professor Musa underscored the need for all to continue to pray as well as do the right things always. He justified his assertion with quotations from the Holy Qur’an.

The Chief Imam reiterated the commitment of the Muslim community to the continued advancement of the institution.

Imam Musa explained further, “It is not enough to supplicate and call on Almighty God for solutions to our problems; we also need to demonstrate practical faith and live our conviction. All religions preach the attainment of sterling human qualities such as honesty, accountability, probity, integrity, transparency and we must not be found wanting in this regard”.

Several notable members of the Muslim community attended the Iftar event including the Chairman of the University Muslim Community, Professor Hakeem Olaniyan, amongst many others.

The Iftar program is an annual organized by the University Management and the Muslim community during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. This year’s edition is the first under the leadership of the current Vice-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, ProfesorFolasadeOgunsola FAS.
