In a remarkable tribute to pioneering women in academia, the Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Lagos, on Tuesday, March 18, 2024, unveiled the portraits of the first female professors in the various departments of the faculty.
The four distinguished female professors honored at the event were:
- Prof. E.O. Adegbite: First Female Professor in the Department of Finance.
- Prof. S.O. Ajibolade: First Female Professor in the Department of Accounting.
- Prof. B.N. Dixon-Ogbechi: First Female Professor in the Department of Business Administration.
- Prof. F.O. Olowokudejo: First Female Professor in the Department of Actuarial Science & Insurance.
This historic event, held in the spirit of International Women’s Day, celebrated the achievements of female scholars who have broken barriers in their respective fields.
The unveiling ceremony was performed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS in the presence of senior members of the university management and the Faculty.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Ogunsola commended the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Adeola A. Sulaimon for the laudable initiative, which she described as a fitting recognition of female excellence in academia. She emphasized the importance of female mentorship in higher education, urging senior female academics to guide and inspire the next generation of women scholars.


“This initiative is not only a celebration of achievement but also a call to action for female academics to mentor, support, and uplift young women in the academic space,” she stated.
The unveiling ceremony served as a reminder of the growing representation of women in academia and the need for continuous efforts in gender inclusivity and leadership development. The Faculty of Management Sciences reaffirmed its commitment to promoting excellence, innovation, and gender balance within its academic community.
As the portraits of these distinguished scholars now adorn the faculty’s walls, they stand as a lasting testament to their trailblazing contributions and a source of inspiration for future generations of women in academia.
