All roads led to the Jelili Omotola (Multipurpose) Hall of the University of Lagos on Friday, December 13, 2024, as the entire rank and file of the Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Lagos, converged for the faculty’s Annual Dinner and Awards Night.

Being the 5th (fifth) in its series, the event was an assemblage of both teaching and non-teaching staff members across all five (5) departments of the faculty (i.e. Accounting, Actuarial Science and Insurance, Business Administration, Finance as well as Employment Relations and Human Resource Management) who all turned up with their family members for the ceremony which was also graced by industry partners, collaborators and friends of the faculty.

Held with the theme: Reimagining Success: Local Solutions, Global Impact, the event, according to the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor A. A. Sulaimon was to acknowledge and celebrate the feats recorded during the outgoing year as well as project for the future.

Speaking on the choice of the theme for the event, Prof Sulaimon said the Faculty of Management Sciences in UNILAG has a proven record of driving conversations and actions that matter right from the classrooms to the boardrooms of Nigerian industries. He said “the solutions we develop reflects the richness of our local context while meeting the demands of an interconnected global stage”.

Prof Sulaimon assured of the faculty’s readiness to “foster management strategies and innovations which will harness the potentials of youths, address systemic inefficiencies and promote inclusive development thereby translating wealth in cultural and natural resources into models that are scalable and impactful beyond the Nigerian borders”.

In her remarks, Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, congratulated every member of staff of the Faculty on the annual event.

Prof. Ogunsola who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa described the faculty as the knowledge creation hub for other professions and drivers of productivity, growth as well as overall success in every organization/institution.

She specially appreciated the alumni body of the faculty as well as industry partners for their inputs and solicited their  continued support for more impact in terms of research engagements and other opportunities for both faculty members and students.

The well attended event featured presentation of awards to selected faculty members who were regarded as distinguished leaders namely: Professor Owolabi Kuye (former Dean), Professor Emmanuel Oyatoye (Former Dean), Professor Bolajoko Dixon-Ogbechi (Former HOD, Business Administration), Professor Chris Obisi (Former HOD, Employment Relations and Human Resource Management), Dr. Olalekan Obademi (Former HOD, Finance), Dr Adedehimbo Badejo (Immediate Past Sub-Dean) and Dr. Jumoke Ogunleye (Past Sub-Dean).

Members of staff who retired during the year were also recognized and awarded. Post Assurance, Capital Express Assurance and Enterprise Bank Ltd were awarded as Key Employers of the year, while Sovereign Trust and Linkage Assurance smiled home with awards as Friends of the Faculty.

The Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies UNILAG, Professor Abraham Osinubi and Executive Director, UNILAG Business School (ULBS), Professor Mike Adebamowo were specially recognized as well as best graduating students across all departments of the faculty for the 2023/2024 Academic session. 

There were various entertainment performances to spice up the event while everyone was treated to sumptuous meals and drinks.
