UNILAG FABLAB Kicks Off 3-Days SDG’s Challenge for Africa

Between today and Sunday, December 13, 2020, 13 participants at the UNILAG Fabrication Laboratory (FABLAB) will compete to find open-source solutions to meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) or Goal 13 (Climate Action).

The competition is simultaneously taking place in 8 African countries and online for residents of France (because of the lockdown).

The UNILAG FABLAB is part of a network of Fabrication Laboratories across the world and the first of five in Nigeria.

The digital Fabrication Laboratory was donated to UNILAG on October 9 by the French Embassy in Nigeria.

The participants come from a wide range of backgrounds, ranging from Law to Engineering – and they are in the running for the global price in innovation and solution provision.

All present at the opening ceremony were the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS; Director of the Office of Research and Innovation, Professor Bola Oboh; Deputy Director (Innovations), Dr Amuda; Director, Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre (ESDC), Dr Sunday Adebisi; Director, Office of International Relations, Prospects and Partnership (IRPP) and Head of the FABLAB, Dr Temitope Onuminya.
