Thursday, August 24, 2023 was a day of accountability and reward for members of two staff cooperative societies at the University of Lagos.
The Professor Abdulrahman Bello Hall was where the Progressive Unilag Staff (Akoka) Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited held its 20th Annual General Meeting.
In his opening address, President of the Progressive Unilag Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited, Mr. Babatunde Samson Ogunniran extended gratitude to the University of Lagos Management, particularly the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS and the entire staff for their remarkable support to the society. He emphasized the significance of the Annual General Meeting as the first held under his administration since the last one on November 16, 2022.

Highlighting the Society’s inclusive nature, Mr. Ogunniran stressed his team’s commitment to the well-being of all members. He attributed the Cooperative’s progress to dedicated members who have played pivotal roles in its success story.
In her remarks, the General Secretary of the Society, Mrs. Afolakemi Oladayo noted that membership had been steadily increasing despite various challenges including the recent subsidy removal. She expressed gratitude to members of the Society for their support in overcoming these hurdles.







Mrs Oladayo acknowledged the Management Committee’s active participation in meetings, seminars, workshops, and retreats organized by the Lagos State Directorate of Cooperative Services (LASCOFED), underscoring that these engagements have significantly contributed to the cooperative’s advancement.




UNILAG Academics Cooperative Multipurpose Society …
Similarly, the UNILAG Academics Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited (UNAMCO) held its 16th Annual General Meeting at the Afe Babalola Auditorium.
President of the Society, Dr. Sunday Oladele acknowledged the challenges posed by the 8-month strike of the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities (ASUU), which impeded the Cooperative’s progress. He lauded the resilience and patience exhibited by members during this period.




Dr. Oladele encouraged members to continue contributing positively to the Cooperative’s growth and development.
He announced a new policy which indicates that “..members who are indebted to UNAMCO will no longer have their loan requests approved. Furthermore, individuals who are still servicing normal loans will be ineligible to apply for additional loans, whether normal, commodity, or special. Those eligible for commodity loans can now apply for amounts payable over a 3-month period.”






The General Secretary, Dr. Thonttey expressed gratitude to the University Management, the Lagos State Directorate of Cooperative Services, and staff for their support. She specifically thanked the Bursar and Bursary Staff for their prompt handling of members’ contributions and applications of new co-operators.

Dr. Thonttey expressed her deep appreciation for the success of the 16th Annual General Meeting and the opportunity to serve within the UNILAG Academics Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited.
