The University of Lagos, African Cluster Centre of Excellence (LACC), a Centre within the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), University of Lagos (UNILAG), awarded scholarships worth two million naira to two (2) doctoral students.
It would be recalled that in October 2020, the Centre published a call for applications from suitably qualified candidates for its 2021 Doctoral Scholarships. This was to fulfil part of the Centre’s commitment in supporting postgraduate studies in the Humanities. The focus of the scholarship is on disciplines that will bring new insights to LACC’s cross-cutting themes in Moralities; Knowledges; Arts and Aesthetics; Mobilities; Affiliations; and Learning.
After careful considerations, Mrs. Adebayo, Aminat Titilayo, with the Ph.D. thesis entitled “Space and Theatre: An Analysis of the Nigerian National Theatre, Lagos and the Bulgarian Palace of Culture and Sports (BPCS), Varna” and Mr. Uwa, John Olatunde, with the Ph.D. thesis entitled “Transformation and Transmediation of Nigerian Popular Drama: Remediating Poverty and Unemployment through Stand-Up Comedy”, emerged victorious.
The award, which is valued at the sum of ₦1,000,000.00 (one million naira only) per winner, will be disbursed on a quarterly basis.
The scholarship will run throughout the year 2021.
