UNILAG 55th Convocation Ceremonies: Mgt. Celebrates 69 Retirees

The University of Lagos Management, on Friday, January 17, 2025, rolled out the drums in honor and celebration of sixty-nine (69) of its retiring staff members (teaching and non-teaching) who have put in the mandatory 35 years or more in service of the university.

Tagged the Long Service Award ceremony, the event was part of activities for the 55th Convocation Ceremonies of UNILAG.

All roads led to the Tolu Odugbemi Hall of UNILAG, Akoka, where the celebrants were hosted in company of their families, guests, well-wishers and admirers who converged to celebrate the milestones and values which the awardees represent to the University of Lagos.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, congratulated the awardees for successfully putting in the mandatory 35 years (or more) of service to the University in their various capacities, a feat, she described, as contributory to the growth and milestones which UNILAG has continued to enjoy.

While cautioning the awardees against idleness and docility, Prof Ogunsola implored them to channel their energies into productive activities and set out to achieve the things they could not achieve while in service to the University.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, the event was specially put together by the University Management, to appreciate and celebrate the awardees for their decades of hard work and worthwhile services to UNILAG in their various capacities.

The event featured a talk on its theme: Retirement Rocks by Professor Oluwayemisi Obashoro-John. She also applauded the awardees for their services and contributions to UNILAG.

The Professor of Adult Education implored the awardees to see retirement as a new beginning which should inspire new goals and gear them into new activities.

She particularly implored the retirees and retiring staff members to embrace new ideas, cultivate and build friendships, be more interactive, share their worries, conquer their fears and avoid anything that could sabotage the peace they need after retirement.

In a response on behalf of all the awardees, Professor Esther Oluwafunmilayo Adegbite appreciated the Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff, Students and stakeholders of UNILAG community for honoring and celebrating them in such auspicious way.

The retired Professor of Finance prayed and wished the University Management well especially in the pursuit of the Future-Ready Agenda.

Highlights of the event included presentation of awards and token of gifts to all the awardees, games and other entertainment activities.

The 55th Convocation Ceremonies will wind down on Sunday, January 19, 2025, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Christ Our Light, UNILAG, Akoka.
