UNILAC VC Assures Faculty Members of Institutional Support for Career Fulfilment

Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, has reiterated her commitment to efforts aimed at boosting the capacity of the University’s workforce.

She gave the assurance on Friday, July 5, 2024, during an interactive meeting with academic staff within the Graduate Assistant to Lecturer I cadre. The Vice-Chancellor averred that no stone would be left unturned in achieving the UNILAG Future-Ready Agenda.

Flanked by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayo Atsenuwa and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research), Prof. Bola Oboh; Bursar, Mrs Olufunmilola Adekunle; Ag Registrar; Mrs Olakunle Makinde and University Librarian; Professor Yetunde Zaid, the Vice-Chancellor charged the lecturers drawn from all faculties of the university to embrace self-development.

While drawing their attention to various developmental and networking resources within the system, Prof. Ogunsola re-assured of management’s genuine commitment to their career growth and fulfilment.

She buttressed the need for early-career academics to see themselves as important cornerstones in the 21st Century UNILAG Project hence the need for them to invest more in personal development while also leveraging on opportunities provided by the University to hone their skills in contemporaneous research endeavour.

Her words “be open to multidisciplinary researches, pursue researches that are original, authentic and problem-solving.  Utilise available resources and interventions within the system especially in writing research proposals, gaining access to grants, mentorships, trainings, and seminars among others.

Prof. Ogunsola also highlighted series of efforts being made in meeting manpower needs as well as capacity building across all faculties. She stressed the need for cooperation from all stakeholders, for these efforts to yield positive results.

The meeting provided a platform for the lecturers to ask questions and seek clarifications on various issues including institutional support initiatives, career prospects, and other sundry matters affecting the discharge of their duties. With the use of practical examples from her personal experience, the Vice Chancellor provided on-the-spot recommendations to some of the issues raised and directed other issues to the appropriate Management team members including the DVC (A&R); Director of Academic Planning; Director of IRPP; Director of CITS, Director of Quality Assurance & Servicom, among others.
