ULWS Advocates Resuscitation of Nigerian Culture

The University of Lagos Women Society (ULWS) Nursery and Primary School on Friday, October 21, 2022 celebrated the Nigerian Independence Day with a culture-centred event aimed at highlighting Nigeria’s Cultural Heritage.

The event, which took place at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola Multipurpose Hall, UNILAG, was held in honour of the wife of the Vice Chancellor and out-going President of the Society, Mrs. Oluwaseun Ogundipe.

Speaking at the event, the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Abimbola Afolabi explained that the event is held annually to encourage interest in the Nigerian heritage among children. Her words ‘several children have been observed to have little knowledge of their heritage or affinity for their local dialects and delicacies, hence the need to inspire the interest in them during this period of Nigeria’s Independence’.

The event presented a platform to spread the message of unity in diversity, as well as showcase the culture, dialect, indigenous dishes and attires of various tribes across Nigeria.
