Timetable and Guidelines For Elections into DLISA-UNILAG Executive Positions

Activities for elections into executive positions of the Distance Learning Institute Students’ Association (DLISA), University of Lagos, for the 2024/2025 academic session have commenced.

The timetable and guidelines for the election are as follows:

General Guidelines

1.The Staff Adviser shall set up Electoral Committee to facilitate the campaign process and organize the manifesto presentation.

2.The Staff Adviser shall supervise and coordinate the activities of the Electoral Committees.

3.All candidates will complete the nomination forms online within the stipulated period.

4.The outgoing Executive Members shall submit handover note and financial reports of their tenure as a precondition for the issuance of the certificate of service.

Eligibility of Candidates:

5.Candidates

i.must have completed one full academic session in the University.

ii.must be in good academic standing with a CGPA which must not be less than 3.0.

iii.must not have failed any course whether elective or compulsory as at the end of the 2023/2024 academic session.

6.A candidate found guilty of misconduct by the University Management shall be disqualified from running for an elective post even after the election.

7.Any student discovered to have given wrong information will be disqualified and if elected, shall be removed to face a disciplinary panel while the runner-up will be declared the winner.

8.Students who have matriculated in a post-secondary higher institution other that the University of Lagos are not eligible to contest for any position.

9.Complaints arising from the election should be directed to the Dean of Student Affairs (DSA) through Staff Adviser:

a.The Staff adviser shall submit the list of the Electoral Committee to the Dean of Student Affairs for screening and approval.

b.The Staff Adviser shall supervise and coordinate the activities of the Electoral Committee.

10.There shall be no voting by proxy. As additional security measures will be put in place to ensure compliance.

11.  No student shall hold two positions in the same academic year at the University of Lagos.

12.The winner of the elections shall be determined by a simple majority of the votes.  A re-run shall be conducted within 48 hours when there is a tie.
