Three UNILAG Staff win IREX UASP Fellowship

Three (3) staff of the University of Lagos have been selected to participate in the University Administration Support Program (UASP) Fellowship in Research Management.

They are Professor Abidemi James Akindele (Department of Pharmacology), Dr. Temitope Onuminya (Department of Botany), and Mrs. Angela Itegboje (Research Management Office: RMO).

The programme, which is in three phases, is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and administered by IREX.

The selection of the trio followed their completion of the UASP Research Management and Leadership online course (two semesters), which commenced in July 2022.

Having scaled the hurdle of Phase I and 2 which were virtual engagements, the trio are to embark on a physical visit to the United States for a 5-week period between February 13 and March 23, 2023, for the final phase of the programme.

During the visit, they will join other participants from over eighteen (18) universities across and beyond Africa to undergo a 7-day training exercise as well as discussions with other UASP Fellows.

The visit will afford them an opportunity to observe research management practices in other universities as well as further broaden their scope around research through the exchange and sharing of ideas, the building of contacts, and the expansion of networks with other participants.

In line with the objective of the Fellowship, the trio will, on completion of the final phase, use the experience garnered to refine a reform plan that would further strengthen research management in the University of Lagos.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, FAS, heartily congratulates and wish them success as they proceed on the final phase of the University Administration Support Program (UASP) Fellowship in Research Management.
