Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, received a donation of solar-powered streetlights and poles from Felicity Solar Nigeria Limited.
The donation, facilitated by UNILAG Energy Club, highlights the impact of student-led engagement. The Club acted as the link between the university and private sector to address the challenge of lighting up the campus to ensure visibility and safety.



Representatives of the donor company led by its Director of Digital Marketing, Mr. Frankie Duan, was formally received by members of UNILAG management team including the Vice-Chancellor’s representative and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor Bola Oboh; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Muyiwa Falaiye, FNAL and the Director, Quality Assurance and SERVICOM unit, Professor Olufemi Saibu.

For the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services) who coordinated closely with the donor, the intervention is aimed at improving campus security, enhancing night-time visibility for students and staff, and supporting UNILAG’s commitment to renewable energy solutions.
Professor Falaiye described the donation as timely and critical, noting that poorly lit areas such as Akinpelu Road, Alvan Ikoku Road, Ransome-Kuti area, International School/Honours Hostel axis, and High-Rise residential area will benefit from improved illumination. He also commended members of UNILAG Energy Club for ensuring the successful delivery of the project.

In her remarks, Professor Bola Oboh expressed the institution’s appreciation to Felicity Solar Nigeria Limited for addressing a key infrastructural need. According to her, the donation, which aligns with the University’s green energy agenda, provides practical relief amid ongoing electricity supply challenges.

On behalf of the donor company, Mr. Frankie Duan affirmed Felicity Solar Nigeria Limited’s commitment to a safer and better-lit campus. He emphasised that beyond the donation and installation of the solar-powered streetlights and poles, the company would also ensure sustained maintenance and technical support to ensure optimal utilisation.
