Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO) has re-assured authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) that the Geosciences building, currently under construction, will soon be completed and commissioned.
At a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS on Monday, June 16, 2025, a delegation from SNEPCO confirmed that the state-of-the-art facility will mark a major milestone in academic and industrial collaboration, as well as elevate geosciences education, research, and industry partnerships in Nigeria and beyond.


The SNEPCO delegation included Jiang Kun (General Manager, Development), Ahmed Abubakar (General Manager, Corporate Relations Nigeria), Falade Oladipo (Front End Development & Portfolio Manager), Abu Elohor (Senior Advisor, Policy & Advocacy), Onochie Obiajulu (Manager, NCD Industry Collaboration), Engineer Ehebha Lawretta (Project Lead, Social Investment), and Builder Ahmed Lawal (MD, 225mm Construct Limited, Project Contractor).
The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor along with the three (3) Deputy Vice-Chancellors: Professor Bolanle Oboh (Academic & Research), Professor Afolabi Lesi (Development Services), and Professor Muyiwa Falaiye (Management Services); Registrar, Mrs. Abosede Wickliffe; Bursar, Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Adekunle and Director of Academic Planning, Professor Olusoji Ilori.


A Commitment to Excellence
SNEPCO’s General Manager of Development, Jiang Kun, highlighted the company’s dedication to advancing science and innovation.
“This facility, once completed, will be a testament to our passion for scholarship and nation-building through geosciences. We look forward to celebrating this milestone soon, leaving a lasting legacy in geosciences education,” she said.
SNEPCO’s Project Lead for Social Investment Engineer, Ms. Ehebha Lawretta, praised the collaborative efforts of UNILAG’s Geosciences faculty, noting that their expertise has been crucial in guiding the project.
“UNILAG has been exceptional in providing scholarly support, ensuring this facility meets international standards,” she said.


A Transformative Project for UNILAG
The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to SNEPCO, stating that the building will enhance the University’s prestige and foster stronger ties between academia and industry.
“This project will bridge theory and practice, boosting research and global collaboration,” she said after reviewing the construction progress.




The New State-of-the-Art Geosciences Facility
At the end of the courtesy visit, SNEPCO delegation and UNILAG Management team toured the construction site of the ongoing Geosciences facility.
The project, a three-storey building, will provide two 250-seater auditoria, classrooms, offices, and laboratories. The building which will also include a penthouse is expected to set a new benchmark for geosciences infrastructure in Nigeria once completed.
